Hastings Rowing Club made an impressive start to the new racing season with a series of strong performances at the annual Viking Shield Regatta in Dover, held in glorious sunshine and a vibrant coastal atmosphere. Crews from across the club showed determination and teamwork, securing multiple podium finishes and setting a positive tone for the months ahead.

The league season for both men and women’s teams at Heathfield ended with bonus point wins to complete the most successful season ever for the club. The men won 19-50 at Charlton Park while the ladies edged Hampstead 29-27.

RECYCLING NEWS: The District Council’s report in Hurst Life tells us that more than 2,000 tonnes of food waste have been recycled in Mid Sussex in four months which is excellent news. I particularly like the statistic that this is equivalent in weight to 450 African elephants! The district’s overall recycling rate has risen from 43% to nearly 56%.

There is something very satisfying about growing your own food whether it’s from seeds or from seedlings bought from a garden centre. Both rewarding and sustainable, it also connects us with the rhythms of nature and can save money. It can also be a little challenging or frustrating at times, but this makes the reward of harvesting, cooking and eating your home grown produce all the more gratifying.

On 21st April Horsham joined this movement with the screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing (PEB) in a packed Trafalgar Road Baptist Church. The film, introduced by Chris Packham, did what it said on the tin – a comprehensive briefing on the climate and nature emergency that will now be with us for the foreseeable future.
